Public interest in dealing with sustainability has increased enormously. Companies and organisations have recently been judged on their contribution to the fight against climate change. And this also applies to teams in professional football and other sports. But what about sustainability in relation to global sporting events or professional leagues? Do they fulfil their responsibility in the eyes of the public? What influence does this have on the reputation of sponsors?

Using the example of Premier League football clubs, our new study aims to show that ESG and sustainability aspects in particular have gained enormous relevance in sport. The clubs' travel activities are viewed particularly critically here. The report provides important insights for communicators and marketing decision-makers:

  • What role does sustainability play for communication in the sports industry?

  • What is the public perception of sustainability issues in football?

  • What impact do sustainability faux pas have in sport?
